ELLE Shops

Rhapsody in Blue
Diana Vreeland once called them “the most beautiful things since the gondola.” The legendary editor wasn’t referring to Saint Laurent couture or Chanel’s tweeds, but rather to that humble Americana staple: the blue jean. And while denim has come a long way since Vreeland’s time (what might she have made of Balmain’s aggressively battered versions?), we think the style icon would have gotten a kick out of this spring’s indigo bounty—from espadrilles and ’60s-inspired tunics to lace-tinged or candy-colored skinnies. We’ve culled our best of the blues guide from the runways of Céline, Stella McCartney, Dries Van Noten, and Derek Lam, and the showrooms of the classic: Levi’s. After 138 years, you’ve still got our heart.
