Healthy weight loss is a gradual weight loss based on a nutrient dense diet that is low calorie. Many nutrient dense foods are naturally low calorie as most of these foods are fruits and vegetables.

American culture is about instant gratification. The Internet was first derived as a means of sharing information between the Pentagon and a select few research Universities in the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. Since then, the Internet has become a center of instantaneous commerce, correspondence, and information sharing. One does not have to leave the house to shop anymore. Some people work from home with a broadband connection. America is a fast-paced society in which results are desired as soon as something has begun.

However, it is naive to believe that fast is necessary good. For instance, the world’s supersonic commercial jet, the Concorde took the elite from London or Paris to New York or Washington, DC for twenty years. It was fast, it could cross the Atlantic in a few hours. The Concorde program was scrapped because it was not practical. It consumed a tonne of fuel and the price of a ticket was terribly high.

Like the story of the Concorde, rapid weight loss is inefficient and costly. Rapid weight loss is not natural. However, the weight loss industry frequently markets dietary supplements as the “fastest” way to lose weight. Supplements may work. However, rapid weight loss usually results in the fat returning as fast as it left a few months later. Besides, no one wants to have to buy expensive dietary supplements for the better part of one’s natural life. Rapid weight loss is also potentially dangerous as it could cause some organs to function abnormally.

Watch out for weight loss programs that relay on cheesy testimonials of losing hundreds of pounds within the course of few weeks. Chances are that the supplement is a type of amphetamine that could potentially cause the heart to palpitate. Many amphetamine based supplements can irritate a heart condition and trigger serious medical problems. Some dietary supplements make claims of rapid weight loss. However, the next question one should ask is how. Many dietary supplements cause people to lose weight through taking a cleverly marketed and branded laxative.

Laxatives do make people lose weight. However, this type of rapid weight loss is not healthy. In fact, many Americans are hospitalized for laxative abuse due to a desire for rapid weight loss. This can cause severe dehydration and malnutrition. Laxative abuse is a type of Bulimia. This is not a healthy practice and should be avoided at all costs.

Nature’s bounty makes for healthy weight loss. An apple might not be as cleverly packaged as a cupcake; but it is good for sweet fixes with the added benefit of potassium, fiber, magnesium and other nutrients. Even so-called low-fat or low calorie cupcakes do not have much nutritional value. Healthy weight loss is rarely achieved through the consumption of packaged diet foods. Fresh foods are the best means of getting proper nutrition to lose weight naturally.

Healthy weight loss is slower. Healthy weight loss is also contingent upon making long-term decisions based on realistic goals. Healthy weight loss is yet another story of the “Hare and the Tortoise.”
